You may not sell the resources that you receive. If you are receiving resources for one time use, such as for an event or a theater production, fill out the online application and request a hardship waiver if needed.

Request a hardship waiver of the processing fee if needed. After you show proof that you are a teacher and that your school or organization is eligible, you will be provided with an Artsy Fartsy Unicorn Membership Card at the front desk that you will need to enter the Teacher Resource Center.

You must fill out an impact form every time you take materials from the free teacher section. Please keep the teacher area as neat and tidy as possible. It is staffed by generous volunteers and paid employees who work hard to make this program available for those in need.

Please treat our staff and volunteers courteously. Homeschool parents who are not part of a co-op are not eligible for a membership in the teacher resource center, but AoR provides free resources and sometimes student snacks for all parents when those items are available.

Check our free cart or the Undersea Room when you enter our facility. Your behavior means everything. Do not abuse our staff or treat them with disrespect. We do not tolerate bad behavior of any sort.

Any yelling, cursing, or demeaning of our staff will result in having your membership revoked. If you take items for your own personal use, or to sell online, then you are committing a crime. Your membership can be revoked at any time if our staff believes that there is good cause.

There has always been a processing fee to have access to the free resource center. Over the course of the pandemic, Art of Recycle had waived the fee and covered the expenses of processing memberships with the EIDL loan, because we wanted to help organizations to keep their programs going throughout the pandemic.

It was a good decision, because we did keep important programs up and running. We are now out of funds, and can no longer keep the program running without teachers and organizations pitching in again to help the program to continue.

We are also enforcing the fee and putting a cap on how many items a person can take from the center based on their needs because people have been abusing our program and using the resource center to collect items to sell.

Our membership application is now a digital form that helps us to track our resources quickly and more efficiently.

The clipboards are being replaced with a digital form that will be easier to track educators needs as well as our inventory. The new digital infrastructure will help us to ensure our donors that the materials that they are donating are indeed going to classrooms and non-profits and not being taken by resellers who are trying to profit off of our program and our staffs hard work.

How did we come up with the number 35? Our staff spends an average of 8 hours a day processing memberships, up to two hours per person.

However, we understand that the people receiving the services that your organization or school is providing them with Need those services and deserve the best that their community can do for them. There is no program in the entirety of the United States, or in the world, that is providing any programs similar to what Art of Recycle is doing, without grants and large funders.

Those programs that do exist are temporary programs that only last until their funding runs out.

Projects that are not costly! I always seek out what resources I have available to the area in which I live. For example: I live next to the recycle center in the city of Mobile so I generated a 3-D sculpture project creating Cathedrals and dumios of Italy and Spain.

We discussed the background history, viewed a power-point, researched with our MACs and Art History Books. We discussed famous Cathedrals, viewed a home video of myself on tour in Europe and I read the story of The Life of Antoni Gaudi, Building on Nature by Rachel Rodriguez and illustrated by Julie Paschkis.

Once I broke my leg and while recovering my doctor gave me some of the casting material and now I order this from our art supply resources and the doctor has made a donation before for me.

Use masking tape after cleaning the plastic jugs and bottles to tape the structures and armature together first. I bought from the thrift store and some new plastic goblets for toppers and other interesting bottles. We then apply the casting keeping it smooth. Upon drying we paint with acrylic and use black and white copy images of old architecture gates, ornamentation, windows, doors, crosses etc.

We guild and antique them with gold and silver metallic acrylic paint and complete with decoupage. They are gorgeous!! We even hot glue old jewelry and other ornamentation. We used over 1, containers last spring. One student had over 22 in their structure.

It takes a bit of prep to cut it, but it is so awesome. Students can sketch in chalk, erase with wet towel or sponge then they add underpainting with white acrylic and paint on top of that with acrylic.

If you want you can varnish with simple acrylic varnish I use liquitex. I have gotten more compliments on the tar projects I have done than any other project. I also cut down old cardboard boxes to use as weaving looms and canvases for painting and mixed media collage encaustics.
